About Us
Inclusive, inspiring, influential
Our Mission & Vision

Mission :-
Changing the Chemistry in the boardroom so people and boards embrace diversity of thought.
-
Diversity of thought - being identity, cognitive and experiential – who we are, how we think and what we have lived through
Vision :-
-
To be the most effective peer to peer support network, head-quartered in Scotland, that helps members secure board appointments and be effective

Changing the Chemistry was established in 2011, proudly emerging from the ‘Inspiring Women Leaders – Dare We?’ event

At the start of our journey we recognised and celebrated not just gender diversity but diversity of all kinds, and we continue to embrace this through our philosophy of promoting diversity of thought.
CtC was the first organisation in the UK to operate in this field and we remain a UK-wide leader. Headquartered in Scotland, we became a Scottish Incorporated Charitable Organisation (SCIO) in 2015.
CtC is reliant on peer-to-peer support, generating income through a variety of commercial activities, including training provision and corporate membership (Affiliate membership).
Our values:
-
Courage - we will be courageous in all we do
-
Tenacity – we strive for individuality, making a difference and proactive collaboration
-
Credibility - we will build a reputation as change agents
-
Making a difference – encouraging and influencing organisational change

Anti-Racism Statement
By anti-racism we mean actively standing up against racism, challenging and changing the policies, practices, beliefs and behaviours that unjustly disadvantage people from minority ethnic groups within the UK; and being proactive in creating a more inclusive and fair society. This is fundamental to our efforts to increase diversity and “diversity of thought” on boards.
Diversity, equity and inclusion are core values and objectives of Changing The Chemistry and we are taking new measures to further promote these values at all levels of our organisation.
We are committed to social justice and to addressing inequalities to contribute to a more equitable society.
Systemic injustices that exist within society based on race and identity are rightly being scrutinised and as an organisation, we support sustainable change.
We will share what we know and what we learn with our members and wider community and hope they will share their knowledge with us to address these inequalities together.
We are proud of the diversity of the work we do and the organisations we support, and know there is more to do.
We commit to measures that reduce these inequalities and address the issue of under-representation of people from global majority backgrounds on the boards of organisations within the Public, Private, and Third Sectors.
Why an Anti-Racism Statement?
CtC recognises that we live in a country and society where the status quo is stacked in favour of white people, while others are disadvantaged. For this reason, we have taken steps to actively influence, challenge and provide thought leadership and training to help dismantle processes, systems or mindsets that preserve racism within organisations. For this reason, we stand on an anti-racism platform to influence inclusivity on boards.
We know there are systemic biases in place that can prevent global majority communities progress to their full potential in the workplace or on boards. Therefore we want to take action to change behaviours, processes, systems and policies that give one person an advantage over another because of the colour of their skin. Through this anti-racism statement we hope to demonstrate that we are committed, through our work, to identifying barriers to progression for people from the global majority and that implementing anti-racist actions will endeavour to overcome inherent systemic biases.
